This picturesque
city is located on the south shore of Nahuel Huapi Lake, 700 mts.
above sea level.
The architecture of the city resembles the characteristic
resorts on the Swiss Alps and this is why it is called the 'Argentine
Switzerland'. Especially known due to
its closeness to one of the best skiing areas in the country, Cathedral
Mountain, the city is also the starting point for the Lake Crossing
through the Chilean border. Bariloche,
in the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park, is surrounded by
immense mountains, crystal clear lakes and centennial coihue and cypress
woods; in all, a marvellous |
landscape. Nahuel Huapi Lake, of glacial origin, has a surface of
560 square km. and its arms penetrate the woods and connect
the lake to a chain of smaller lakes and mountain rivers, habitat
for salmons and trout. The area is a paradise for fishing, hunting,
trekking, rafting and all kinds of adventure sports and activities
in contact with nature. |

Los Glaciares National Park, one of the most incredible views on earth,
is famous thanks to the Perito Moreno Glacier. This Glacier, together
with twelve other, form the Patagonian Continental Ice Field that
descends on the Atlantic side to flow into the Viedma and Argentino
Lakes. All the sights in the area are breathtaking: Mounts Fitz Roy
and Torre, always an attraction for expert climbers from all over
the world, crystal clear lakes with incredibly shaped icebergs floating
in the deep blue waters and the endless and magic Patagonic desert.
UNESCO has declared the park a part of the Natural Heritage of Humanity.
El Calafate, small and charming village located on the shores of the
Argentine Lake, is the place to stay when visiting the area. Its closeness
to the huge mass of water of the lake, its northern orientation and
the artificial protection offered by its trees account for the mild
climate of the village, much better than in the surrounding plateau.
Fitz Roy or El Chalten mount Paradise for climbers and hikers.
In the northern area of the park, Mounts Fitz Roy and Torre are
undeniable challenges for climbers and hikers from all over the
world. Fitz Roy Mount is one of the most beautiful mountains in
the region, a granite mass 3.375 mts high surrounded by Argentine
and Chilean glaciers and mountains. Its name in Indian Mapuche language
is Chalten. The tour borders Leona River, Viedma Lake and crosses
Rio Las Vueltas to get to the northern area of Los Glaciares National
Park where the magnificent Southern Andes offer one of its best
views. This is the meeting place for climbers and hikers, there
is a camping site, and inn where it is possible to have lunch or
overnight. The tour continues to El Chalten, the village at the
foot of the Mount, 220 km north of El Calafate.
|

The majesty of nature at its best. Departure from El Calafate bordering
the southern arm of the Argentine Lake to get to Los Glaciares National
Park (90 km away) and reach the paths to the Glacier. Perito Moreno
Glacier is about 30.000 years old. Its surface is 192 km2, the front
wall is 5 km long and some of its peaks are 80 metres high. The
deep blue base is almost as dark as the water that surrounds it.
The deep silence is suddenly interrupted by the tremendous noise
of huge pieces of ice that crack from the glacier and fall into
the lake to float on the Canal de los Tempanos (Icebergs Channel).
The continuos advance of the glacier eventually separates this Channel
from the rest of the Lake. As the Channel is its only communication
with the rest of the lakes system, the lake grows to reach over
30 metres above its normal level and floods the surrounding areas.
Such pressure opens a tunnel in the ice wall forming an arch that
eventually collapses in the world famous ‘breaking of the glacier’.
This breathtaking phenomenon takes place every 4 years or so. Optionally,
it is possible to take a boat for a short sail along Brazo Rico
to get close to the ice walls. The navigation takes about one hour.

Tierra del Fuego Island is the last province in Argentina
and the Strait of Magellan separates it from the country.
The Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan discovered it
in 1520, during his voyage to explore the area looking for
a connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.
Its capital city, Ushuaia, is considered the southernmost
city in the world. It is located on the rugged shores of the
Beagle Channel and surrounded by mountains that offer protection
from the strong and cold southern winds. Ushuaia has been
declared free port as incentive for people to settle. Nearby,
Tierra del Fuego National Park protects a wide variety of
flora and fauna species as red foxes, guanacos, beavers, condors
and ducks. The coast and the islands on the Beagle Channel
are the habitat of sea wolves, Magellanic penguins and cormorants
among many other species.
A tour in the End of the World city. The city is located on
the Martial Range and is a succession of picturesque ups and
downs. The tour visits the old area, the port and the narrow
roads that climb the hills. During the ride the different
views are nice and colourful. A visit to the End of the World
Museum is included as a chance to see the artefacts of the
primitive Ona and Yagan inhabitants and also mementoes from
the first European settlers, the Bridges and Haberton Families.
|

The corner of the Earth: a magnificent landscape. This Park,
12 km from Ushuaia, is the only National Park with ocean coast
in the country. Its 63.000 hectares protect innumerable ñires,
lengas, cherry trees, calafates and notros and flowers as
violets and orchids. The walk in the park offers marvellous
panoramic views of the Beagle Channel surrounded by mountains
and an opportunity to feel nature at its best. The Pan American
road that joins America from north to south, starts in Alaska
and finishes at Lapataia Bay, a dreamt paradise that together
with Laguna Verde and Lago Roca is the highlight of the tour.

Sail the southernmost waters: a unique opportunity. Transfer
to the tourist port to board a catamaran and sail the waters
of the Beagle Channel which unites the Atlantic and the Pacific
Oceans. As the catamaran leaves the shore, the view of the
city is spectacular. The tour circles Bridges and Archipielago
Islands, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse and several rocks where
sea mammals and birds find shelter. This is an excellent chance
to see them in their habitat without interrupting their activities.
